Tree-foraging

We found a likely-looking tree yesterday and Mike performed his magic with the chainsaw, which took all of three seconds or so.

We had to cut another two or three feet off the bottom of it to make it fit in the living room (why is it so hard to judge the size of a tree when you're outside?) and even then, it's easily the biggest Christmas tree we've ever had. Our old Christmas lights looked so pathetic on it that we had to go out and buy some new ones. So much for our 'free' tree...

Anyway, it's now installed and looking as gloriously tasteless as any of its predecessors.

If you were Wallace and Gromit, you would have cut a hole in the ceiling rather than lopping away part of the trunk.

Personally, I will take "gloriously tasteless" any day when it is decorated with love and memories. :)

So where exactly did you find this tree? Was it in your garden, or are you allowed to just go out into the countryside and grab one?

[Loved Esther's comment too!]

Yes, it's on our property, Mark - this is our first attempt at Christmas-tree-self-sufficiency. :-)

NICE! I think we should start a tree co-op (sort of like the cow co-op idea)...I have 10 spruce that will be ready in 2020 :-)

If you need a tree, Elizabeth, you know where to come!

Very satisfying to cut down your own tree. And they're you're decorations, so of course it looks great.
