Are we looking through the bottom of a drinking glass or glass vase? Intriguing!

A glass eye on a black cat?
I was going to say we are looking up into an old light fixture but I like easygardener's "a glass eye of a black cat' better. Once I looked at it with that picture mind, it was the perfect answer.
